We had booked a 14.00 boat from Southampton so it was an early start for us in the Model Y. As usual I wanted to avoid motorways and dual carriageways so no M3 or A34 for us. Instead it was cross country via Aylesbury, Goring and Andover.
We left about 5.45 and made good time so we had a breakfast stop at a McDonalds at Benson just about where we crossed the Thames which I reckoned was just short of half way.
By the time we got to Andover we were well ahead os schedule so thought we would drop in at Mottisfont, a National Trust property just outside Southampton for a spot of lunch. Well I have never seen so many people at a National Trust property in my life. Even though it was barely 11.30 the queue for refreshments was horrendous so we gave it a miss, had a quick look round and headed back to he car.
The problem was there were so many people trying to get in we couldn’t get out! When we did get out of the car park we couldn’t go the way we wanted as the lane was blocked with cars so we had a ten mile diversion to get back on the main road.
